It is one of the largest bibliographic databases dedicated to economics and related disciplines, allowing researchers to search publications, explore author profiles, follow citations, and discover related research. IDEAS collects bibliographic metadata from thousands of participating publishers, universities, research institutions, and academic repositories through the RePEc network. For academic publishers, inclusion in IDEAS can increase the international visibility and discoverability of journal articles, particularly in economics, finance, business, and related social sciences. Publishers generally contribute their metadata through a RePEc archive rather than submitting individual articles directly to IDEAS. Website: https://ideas.repec.org/

The Open Archives Initiative (OAI)

The Open Archives Initiative (OAI) develops and promotes interoperability standards that aim to facilitate the efficient dissemination of content. OAI has its roots in the open access and institutional repository movements. Continued support of this work remains a cornerstone of the Open Archives program. The Open Archives Initiative project is developed by Cornell University, USA.

CiteSeerX

CiteSeerX is an open-access scientific literature search engine and digital library developed at Pennsylvania State University, specializing in computer science, information science, and related disciplines. It collected millions of scholarly documents, including journal articles, conference papers, and technical reports, using automated web crawling and metadata extraction. The platform linked publications with their references and citations, helping researchers discover related studies and explore connections between scientific papers. CiteSeerX was particularly notable for its pioneering use of automated citation indexing and machine-learning techniques to organize academic literature. However, the service appears to be no longer operational in 2026, so it should not be considered a reliable current channel for increasing the visibility of your journals.

The Open Archives Initiative (OAI)

The Open Archives Initiative (OAI) is an international initiative that develops standards and technical frameworks to improve the interoperability and exchange of scholarly information across digital repositories. Its most widely used standard, the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH), enables services to collect bibliographic metadata from institutional repositories, academic journals, digital libraries, and other scholarly platforms. By implementing OAI-PMH, academic publishers can make their publication metadata accessible to aggregators and discovery services, improving the visibility and discoverability of their journals and articles. The protocol supports standardized metadata formats, particularly Dublin Core, allowing different systems to exchange information efficiently. OAI is especially relevant for publishers using platforms such as Open Journal Systems (OJS), which can expose article metadata through an OAI-PMH endpoint. However, OAI itself is not an indexing database; it provides the technical standards that enable other services to harvest and index scholarly records.

Figshare

Figshare is an online research repository that enables researchers, universities, academic publishers, and research institutions to share, preserve, and disseminate scientific outputs. It hosts more than 8 million research outputs, including journal articles, datasets, conference presentations, figures, posters, software, and supplementary materials. The platform assigns Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to published research outputs, facilitating permanent identification, citation, and discoverability. Figshare supports open science by providing public access to research materials, descriptive metadata, usage statistics, and integration with other scholarly services. Individual researchers can use the platform free of charge, with 20 GB of storage available for uploaded materials.
