Abstract

We begin this study on the image of the rogue in the anonymous Lazarillo de Tormes with a threefold motive. On the one hand, to show how the mischievousness that was observed during the Spanish Golden Age has been captured in the work through the character of Lazarillo, and on the other hand, to show the presence of the themes of begging and tenacity in our corpus. Finally, to expose the themes of begging and perseverance in the African context. We have carried out this study using a socio-critical approach and objective, comparative, aesthetic methods followed by context and content analysis. The results allow us to conclude that the author of Lazarillo de Tormes reveals with an ironic tone, although sometimes harsh and mixed with humour, not only the deviations of the Spanish society of the time, but also the misery of the life of abandoned children struggling to survive. In addition, the book highlights the actions of some Christian clerics who, being completely removed from evangelical values, show that they live according to their individual material interests. At last, the same author also reveals in a peremptory way the cruelty, selfishness and greed of the Spanish society at that time.
